The Seven Chakras: A Complete Map of Emotion, Energy & Liberation

What Are Chakras? The Science

Chakras are the subtle energy centers in your being. They have no physical existence — you cannot cut open a body and find them. Yet they manage all your physical, mental, psychological, emotional, and spiritual activities. Your attitudes, your moods, your decisions, your relationships — everything is controlled and managed by these seven energy centers.

Listen intensely. When the chakras are disturbed, when they are not at ease with your system, dis-ease happens to you. When they are dis-eased with your being, disease happens. If the chakras can be activated by a proper method, by a proper technique, you can be freed from disease. Not only do you come out of disease — you taste real well-being.

How do you measure whether you are in a state of well-being? Early in the morning, as soon as you get up from the bed — if your steps from the bed to the bathroom are a dance instead of being just steps, you are healthy. You are in a state of well-being. The steps from bed to bathroom should be more like a dance than just steps. That is the time you just come out of unconsciousness. That is the time to measure: who are you? How are you?

The Seven Chakras: Name, Location & Core Emotion

Each chakra is associated with a particular emotion. These emotions are the result of engraved memories — samskaras — which we have accumulated over lifetimes. These samskaras block the particular energy center. When we understand our negative emotions and complete them, these chakras open up and radiate energy for us.

| Chakra | Sanskrit Name | Location | Blocking Emotion | Awakened State |

| 1 | Root | Muladhara | Base of spine / perineum | Fear | Grounded security, primal trust in existence |

| 2 | Sacral | Swadhisthana | Below navel | Guilt (Sex) | Creative flow, innocent sensuality, joy |

| 3 | Solar Plexus | Manipuraka | Navel center | Worry | Radiant power, spontaneous action, will |

| 4 | Heart | Anahata | Heart center | Attention-Need | Unconditional love, compassion, connection |

| 5 | Throat | Vishuddhi | Throat center | Jealousy | Pure expression, truth-speaking, creativity |

| 6 | Third Eye | Ajna | Between eyebrows | Ego | Intuitive clarity, inner vision, wisdom |

Deep Dive: Each Chakra, Its Emotion & How to Unblock It

1. Muladhara — The Root Chakra — Fear

Location: Base of spine, perineum

Emotion: Fear

Element: Earth

Color: Red

Fear is the most primal emotion. It is the first blockage. When muladhara is blocked by fear, you experience insecurity, anxiety about survival, restlessness, and a constant sense of not being safe — even when you are perfectly safe. Fear is not about what is happening; fear is about what might happen. It is always future-oriented.

How to Unblock:

The key to unblocking muladhara is grounding in the present moment. Fear cannot exist in the now. Fear needs a future to survive. When you bring your awareness fully into this moment — into your body, into your breath, into the sensation of your feet touching the earth — fear dissolves.

Practice: Sit in vajrasana. Bring your awareness to the muladhara. Breathe deeply into the base of your spine. Affirm: "I am safe. I am held by existence. All fear is just a thought about a future that does not exist." Walk barefoot on the earth. Connect with the ground. Completion happens when you realize that existence has been carrying you from birth — you never needed to be afraid.

2. Swadhisthana — The Sacral Chakra — Guilt (Sex)

Location: Below the navel, sacral area

Emotion: Guilt — specifically around sexuality, pleasure, and desire

Element: Water

Color: Orange

Swadhisthana is the seat of creativity, sensuality, and the flow of life energy. When blocked by guilt — especially sexual guilt — you feel numb, disconnected from your own body, unable to experience innocent pleasure. Society has conditioned you to feel guilty about your natural desires. This guilt becomes a knot in the swadhisthana.

I tell you: sex is not sin. Guilt is the only sin. When you feel guilty about your own life energy, you are fighting against existence itself.

How to Unblock:

Completion comes through acceptance without judgment. You must look at your desires with total honesty — not suppressing, not indulging unconsciously, but witnessing with awareness. When you bring consciousness to desire, desire transforms into creativity. The same energy that was stuck as guilt becomes the fuel for art, for dance, for life itself.

Practice: Bring awareness to the swadhisthana. Visualize orange light. Allow any feelings of guilt to surface without pushing them away. Breathe into them. Say to yourself: "I am innocent. My life energy is sacred. I release all guilt now."

3. Manipuraka — The Solar Plexus — Worry

Location: Navel center

Emotion: Worry

Element: Fire

Color: Yellow

Worry is the mind's favorite addiction. When manipuraka is blocked by worry, you feel powerless, indecisive, and stuck in endless mental loops. Worry is not problem-solving — worry is the illusion of problem-solving. It gives you a false sense of control while actually draining your power completely.

How to Unblock:

The antidote to worry is action with awareness. Worry is the gap between knowing and doing. When you act, worry cannot exist. Completion comes when you realize: 99% of what you worry about never happens — and the 1% that does, you handle it anyway because you are alive and capable.

Practice: Sit with awareness on the navel. Visualize a golden sun radiating from your manipuraka. Affirm: "I am power. I am action. Worry is a lie my mind tells me. I release all worry into this fire." Then do one concrete action today that you have been postponing.

4. Anahata — The Heart Chakra — Attention-Need

Location: Heart center

Emotion: Attention-Need

Element: Air

Color: Green

This is the deepest bondage. Attention-need is the root of all suffering in relationships. When anahata is blocked, you are constantly seeking validation from others. You perform for love. You shape-shift to be liked. You become a beggar — not for money, but for a glance, a word, a like, a comment. This is the disease of the modern world.

Listen intensely. Love is your nature. Attention-need is not love — it is the perversion of love. When you need attention, you cannot love. You can only bargain.

How to Unblock:

Completion of attention-need happens when you turn inward and give yourself the attention you are seeking from others. Sit with yourself. Be with yourself. When you can sit alone in a room with no phone, no distraction, and feel complete — not lonely, but complete — your anahata opens.

Practice: Bring awareness to the heart center. Visualize green light expanding. Place your hand on your heart. Affirm: "I am love. I don't need attention — I am attention. I am complete as I am. I give love because I am love, not because I need anything in return."

5. Vishuddhi — The Throat Chakra — Jealousy

Location: Throat center

Emotion: Jealousy

Element: Ether / Space

Color: Blue

Jealousy blocks the vishuddhi because jealousy is the inability to express your own truth. When you are jealous, you are comparing your inside with someone else's outside. You see someone else's success, someone else's joy, someone else's expression — and you feel less. This feeling of "less-than" constricts the throat. You literally cannot speak your truth.

How to Unblock:

The completion of jealousy is authentic self-expression. Jealousy is a pointer — it shows you what you actually want to create in your own life. Instead of resenting the other, use jealousy as a compass. Then express. Speak. Sing. Write. Create. The throat chakra opens when you stop swallowing your truth.

Practice: Bring awareness to the throat. Visualize blue light. Hum deeply. Affirm: "I express my truth fearlessly. Another's light does not dim my own. I celebrate all beings. I release all jealousy now." Then speak one truth today that you have been holding back.

6. Ajna — The Third Eye — Ego

Location: Between the eyebrows

Emotion: Ego

Element: Light

Color: Indigo

Ego is the sense of separation — the "I" that thinks it is separate from existence. When ajna is blocked by ego, you are trapped in the illusion that you are the doer. You think you are running the show. You take credit for successes and blame others for failures. This is the most subtle and dangerous blockage because ego disguises itself as spirituality.

How to Unblock:

The completion of ego is surrender to the cosmic intelligence. Not surrender as weakness — surrender as wisdom. You did not create your heartbeat. You did not digest your food. You did not grow your hair. Something far more intelligent than your ego is already running your life. When you see this, ego dissolves and intuition awakens.

Practice: Bring awareness to the space between the eyebrows. Visualize indigo light. Affirm: "I am not the doer. I am a channel for the divine. I surrender my ego at the feet of existence. Let cosmic intelligence flow through me."

7. Sahasrara — The Crown Chakra — Discontentment

Location: Crown of the head

Emotion: Discontentment

Element: Pure Consciousness

Color: Violet / White / Gold

Discontentment is the final blockage. Even when everything is perfect, the mind finds something to be discontent about. This is the nature of the untransformed mind — it is a dissatisfaction-machine. Sahasrara blocked by discontentment means you cannot rest in bliss. You are always chasing the next thing, the next experience, the next achievement. You are spiritually restless.

How to Unblock:

The completion of discontentment is gratitude as a being-state, not an activity. Not gratitude as a practice you do for five minutes in the morning — gratitude as who you are. When you realize that this very moment, exactly as it is, is the grace of existence, the crown opens. Bliss is not something you achieve. Bliss is what remains when discontentment is dropped.

Practice: Bring awareness to the crown. Visualize violet or golden-white light pouring down. Affirm: "I am bliss. I am complete. I want nothing. I need nothing. I am the very consciousness that holds all of existence. Nithyananda — eternal bliss — is my nature."

The Complete Chakra Meditation (Anandamaya Kosha Practice)

Here is the full meditation for awakening all seven chakras.

Step 1: Sit in vajrasana (or cross-legged, or on a chair). Close your eyes. Breathe chaotically for 7 minutes — let the body move, shake, release.

Step 2: Form chin mudra with your fingers. Hum deeply so the vibration resonates through your whole being for 7 minutes.

Step 3: Take your awareness sequentially through each chakra, starting from muladhara. At each chakra, hold your awareness for about one minute and affirm:

> My [chakra] is pure.

> My [chakra] is filled with energy.

> My [chakra] is overflowing with bliss.

> My [chakra] is radiating Nithyananda.

Step 4: For 7 minutes, just be unclutched in silence.

Step 5: Offer gratitude to the lineage of enlightened masters.

The Ultimate Truth

All seven emotions — fear, guilt, worry, attention-need, jealousy, ego, discontentment — are not your enemies. They are doorways. Each emotion, when met with completion (not suppression, not expression, but deep conscious awareness), becomes the very key that opens the chakra it was blocking.

The chakras are not somewhere far away. They are inside you, right now, waiting. You don't need to create them. You don't need to build them. You only need to remove the blockages. And removal happens through understanding, through completion, through bringing the light of awareness into the dark corners of your being.

When all seven chakras are open, you don't just feel good — you radiate. You become a source of healing for others. Your very presence becomes a blessing. This is Vedic Psychology. This is the science of completion.
